Double bound surf green Tele. Build #2

I got this tele kit for christmas last year and was hoping to have something to work on over the holidays. This idea however was abruptly discarded after the router bit i was using to cut the binding channel slipped out a few mil and gouged a big chunk of wood from the bottom of my guitar.

I was using one of the new dremel tools that has an automatic locking system, which failed to lock the bit in tightly enough. It took a long time (3 months!) to get Bunnings to concede that the fault was with the tool and finally give me a refund. I subsequently bought an older dremel that has a manual locking system and went about cutting the binding channel again.

I used the stew mac dremel routing bit along with the dremel router attachment, which worked really well. It cut cleanly and didn't leave any burn marks as some of the stew mac reviews suggested.

Gav T gave me some very helpful advice re colour choice a little while ago so I'm using MTN-94 products, which are primarily designed for graffiti artists and seem to be very good quality.

The gouge patch up. I initially filled the gouge with unmixed timbermate, which looked good but it didn't seem very durable so I filled it with titebond glue and sawdust, which looks pretty messy in this photo but it is perfectly flat, smooth and flush with the binding.

so you're putting solid paint on top, sides and back anyway so the colour change won't matter on the repaired gouge area

Here is the finished binding. I'm really happy with how it has turned out. It took bloody ages to get it how I wanted it, but it was certainly worthwhile. I think i sanded a little too much (is there such a thing?!) in some bits, which left the binding slightly thinner in some areas. Not particularly noticeable though.
