Thread: Paint and the big green shed's limited range.

  1. #1

Paint and the big green shed's limited range.

If this has been covered elsewhere just ignore it.
I had an idea for the paint colour of my project guitar.
It was the colour of the Holden FB that I remembered from childhood.

Had no luck in Bunnings. They had nothing like it, and nothing that appealed as an alternative.

Found it from Eckersley's of all places. Brand was 'Ironlak' aimed at the graffiti artists.
    Colour was 'Frazetta'.

Was thinking of a colour scheme for my 2nd guitar...a 60's tank cruised by me in Bentleigh.
It was a 'salmon' colour from the same era as the FB Holden.

Ironlak didn't have it in their range and discovered another brand aimed at the graffiti crowd.
    'Belton Molotow' range.

Got it from a shop called 'Union Heights' in Chapel st. Windsor.
They also carried 'Ironlak' and seem to stock a comprehensive range from the colour swatch.Click image for larger version.

Will be interesting to see how quickly and well it cures - my main issue with acrylics....
Awesome colour range, and 50s / 60s car colours look so good

Sure, I found out that Ironlak 'Frezzeta' doesn't go well with Feast Watson Wipe-on Poly.
It dried but there was some areas of blistering and the whole thing peeled off like sunburnt skin.
Took advice from the youtube 'Brad Angove's' view on using the same brand clear.
Re-sprayed it with Ironlak clear acrylic and it's a winner.

Feast Watson stuck to the Molotow quite O.K. though.

    cheers, Mark.

Most auto paint store can mix to a Pantone code number so, if you have Photoshop or similar, make a blank document, get the fill tool and select a colour, most graphics apps give the option of Pantone colours, just make a note of the code, take it to your paint shop. I think most paint manufacturers (household) can use Pantone codes too, maaaaybe hoping for a lot from the green shed .

Years ago, an old mate of mine had an Holden EK wagon in that 'salmon' colour you mentioned, everyone called it 'nipple pink'. That might help your paint supplier find it.
