So i have been reading all the posts and have seen all the mistakes and stuffups that happen and how you guys overcome them so... i will add some more of these from my list.

BTW if anyone asks me will i ever do a painted headstock again i will do a TOWNSEND!!!!
FYI I have been given permission to use that . lol

So i put the guitar together, strung it up played around with the controls to check wiring and fitted the bridge and worked on the intonation. Silly me forgot to remove the clip on tuner and 4 days later when i had removed it it had marked the paint finish on the headstock. Fortunately it buffed out. pic attached of culprit!

NEXT. i decided to attach the string retainers, using a super fine drill bit which promptly broke denting the finish.Ouch.

Sigh. next checked over the headstock again and a piece of the paintwork has mysteriously chipped off apparently for no reason at all.

So out with the sandpaper, 350 and another resand and fill. Sigh again.

Splashed out and bought special thin automotive tape so taping the headstock this time will be a breeze.

    Ouch for the headstock!

You don't need to run ground wires to the cavities if you run tape over the top of the body so it makes contact with the taped underside of the pickguard, preferably running up to some of the screw holes so the contact area is under pressure. It's not quite so pretty with the pickguard off, but you can't see it when it's assembled and it makes taking it apart again a lot easier.

Also, have you checked the tape continuity with a multimeter? Even though there's an overlap between parallel lines of tape, I often find that I don't get any continuity all the way across the taped area unless I run some more tape at right-angles across the top of the other tape, when it's suddenly fine. I have no idea why this happens, but it does.

I have marked the headstock with one of those, many weeks after the finish was laid. Mind u I use poly which takes ages to go off..... there's always some repairs to do!!!, usually when you think you have almost finished...

    Next step

So i assembled the guitar to test the sound. It had a buzz so i disassembled and saw that i has forgotten to attach the bridge wire when i set in the bridge posts. Si i bared about 2 inches of wire, pushed it into the predrilled hole and gently poured in some superglue.
I then wedged the guitar upright so the glue wouldnt run out and waited overnight.
The next day i reassembled and checked...no buzz.

So with some spare time i decided to do a fret dress. Wasnt as bad as i thought and turned out a treat.

So now onto the headstock decal.
I enlisted the help of Phil aka Sonic Mountain and pm him the pic i wanted a similar logo of.
He modified the lettering, resized it and sent me a page of multiple images i could play around with, some reversed, thanks heaps mate.

Now i needed a chrome colour to match the rest of the guitar which is heavily modified with chrome parts.
I did some searching on some Chinese sites and came up with (heaven forbid) a chrome nail polish from Wish.

The stuff is awesome, cost me $3 au and is the closest thing to chrome in a bottle ive ever seen.
So i printed my logo page onto a waterslide decal page and started coating up the reversed image with the 2 part chrome finish.
The image has to have a black outline so its easier to paint. I used a very fine artists brush.

BTW This wasnt easy, i used all of the logos on the page bar one before i was happy with the results. The logos were melting so i sealed the paper with plastic primer and it then came up a treat.

Heres the finished product.... im well pleased, its had about 6 coats of wipe on poly over the top so as not to affect the transfer, then a buff.
the first pic is just applied and the second is with the poly and polish and tuners fitted.
