Thanks for the link KB this is timely with regards to a conversation currently running with my band mates, I did a bit of a google and the reviews are a bit mixed but I guess that is not totally unexpected.

I think one issue is that of take down if the annual fee is not paid on time, not an issue for most but if you were in a band or a managed artist and the person who "owned" the account didn't pay or passed away then it would be pulled down and the publishing lost, they also don't appear to have a hard copy option that others such as CD Baby do.

Maybe this makes a once off fee to publish into perpetuity a better option.

This thread could well be a conversation starter to bring in our online friends here who have experience with the various online distributors.

Clearly a lot has changed. People buy and stream music online now. So the past 5+ years or so I've been trying different ways to get my music out there to the world.

I still have my first single sitting in storage somewhere it is an acetate which was the cheapest way to get a handful to sell to our friends, this was followed by a couple on vinyl which actually made it into the stores. ( what's a record store I hear the younguns ask )

I would be nice if there were similar vids about copywrite, how to obtain ISRC codes and how to embed them and also how royalty distrubition works in a band situation

OK, a bit of research done.

ISRC codes in Oz are via ARIA http://www.aria.com.au/pages/isrc.htm

Embedding is done in the authoring tools and this one appears to be about the cheapest for the job https://hofa-plugins.de/en/plugins/cd-burn-ddp/ 60 Euro
Wavelab is there too but at ~$850.00AUD I won't be going there

Obviously there is the whole mixing and mastering process to get through first

I've set up a couple of Distrokid accounts for fellow band friends and it works well for the local scene who are not properly managed. It gets full thumbs up from me!!

Also I can give my tick of approval for Graham, awesome tips and his studio looks pretty nice!
