SV1 'The blast from the past'

Please don't expect regular updates on this thread, as I am finishing off my RC4 build, and may be for some time!
I have today received my next project, a SV1. I'm not sure that I'll be playing this one live as I kinda think you look a bit weird onstage with this over the age of 35 (Vai excluded of course), but I have wanted one for over 25 years. Back in the early 90s I was in 2 different bands, and both superb guitarists had almost identical Jem 77s. The first photo from '93 I'm playing the rubbish White Kramer Baretta bass, the second from '95 and I'm on a much nicer Jazz Special.
Both of these jems were fluro yellow! Only one had the tree of life inlay.....

Im planning on a more subdued black stain, the same as I used on the back of the RC4.
Like I said, not yet, but soonish! 😀

Nice! Always good to have another person suffering the same build as me. The Hand hole is SOOOOOO much fun to sand. Just a heads up.

Yep thats the little B@st@rd. there was much cursing when I did mine. 15 and 20mm dowel rods as sanding mandrels will be your friend

Gotta wonder what they were thinking when they first cut the hand grip into the body on these??? It serves absolutely no purpose that I can think of.

Along with all the 90's fashion shown in Andy's band photos.

Steve Vai was forever throwing his guitars around on stage. The "monkey grip" makes sense in that context. It also makes the guitar that bit lighter and is in a place where it shouldn't upset the balance.

Thought it must have been because he kept misplacing the hard case and had to carry it home some how haha!
