no, its clocked 100k in its entire life! it ticked over last year. My folks bought it new when they retired in 78, my Mum couldn't see over the dash in a Commodore so they bought an end of model Kingswood. I put power steer on it for her about 10yrs ago as HZ have terrible heavy steering even with just a red motor.

Remember that line? Amazing what they got away with on TV last century.

Nice tidy work area Dedman with lots of manly tools lurking amongst all that shelving.

I'm guessing this gap shouldn't be there? The neck isn't the one that comes with the kit, it's ebony LP set neck.

and a better view of the over all plan. I have to fill the bridge post holes, shape the bottom of the bridge base and narrow it a bit. Might reverse the order of the fingers on the tail too.

It depends on how the neck is sitting in the base of the pocket. The most important aspect will be neck angle in relation to bridge height. Changing its height/depth in the pocket to minimise that gap will affect the required break angle etc.

Make sure the neck is sitting fully flush in the pocket (I use a strip of paper or thread in the pocket, if I can pull it out from under the heel it's not sitting right), then with a straight edge or string line running down the neck check the angle/action in relation to the bridge/sadddles. That should be your starting point to work what can or should be tweaked to get the bridge height, neck, angle and action all in the right areas.
    Scott.

I notice on Gav's and Nevewas' in the gallery that the neck sits flush with the body. Providing I keep the break angle right I think it needs to go down.
this isnt the neck that came with the kit. It's an LP set neck from the Necks section in the store

Yep, understand that. But even dropping the neck a couple mm's deeper into the pocket (by shaving the base of the heel etc) to close that gap will affect the action and may require either a reduction to the bridge height or increase in neck angle to compensate, depending on where your action is to start with.

I get ya, I'm going to have to fit the tail and get the bridge base sorted before I can make any neck decisions ( the bridge isnt the one from the kit either)

Dedman looks like you need to sand the neck heel a bit so it fits flush in the pocket.
Mock build looks pretty cool !

it's flush at the back and at the front bottom, just sitting high as far as I can tell compared to the pics of finished kits. The neck pocket is 39mm deep, the neck is 43mm to the bottom of the fretboard, the neck break angle is built into the floor of the neck pocket. Anyway tomorrow I will mount the tail piece and bridge and see whats what. It got too hot for me today by lunch time
