    semi hollow body shielding

I have been hesitating to ask this question...

I have an ESB-4 kit, which is a semi hollow body with a center block. Is there any reasonable way to shield the cavity?

Since I really only have access through the lower F-hole, I can't think of any way to do it, except on that I am REALLY reluctant about.

That would be to tape off everything as well as possble and use shielding paint. One could pour it in to the cavity, tape off the F-holes and the binding, and then slosh it around until there is reasonable certainty that it has covered everything.

I have never used shielding paint, though. I am worried that despite best efforts to tape it will leave stains around the f-holes or other holes. I am think that it might require quite a lot of paint.

Is it overkill to try to do this? Is there a decent alternative that will fit through an f-hole?

essentially, no you don't shield it, you can do the pickup cavities though

Is was considering this conundrum for my semi, I think what other folks have done is shield the PUP cavities (like Stan said) then shield the wiring as much as possible.

    No point really.
Hollow bodies will always have a certain amount of feedback regardless, its just part of the beast.
Best way to overcome this feed back is to do a Jimi Hendrix and dont stop playing

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Thanks, guys. Never really tried to shield the wiring before. I have heard there is some sort of mesh?

Ha! It's a bass, so stopping is sort of out of the question anyway ;-)

Yep the wire with braided shielding is great. Just remember to ground the shield for each length of wire. I usually solder the shield to the back of the pots etc.

    cheers,
    Gav.
