Yes Adam, that sounds like a fine idea

Hello, I too have an EX kit and I'm looking for the instructions for gluing the neck--the video seems to have been removed. Also video 1 features an ex but there is no video 2 (or 3) which is annoying because that's the bit I'm up to. The key question is do I glue the neck first and then paint it or do paint and then glue the neck? I have a Les Paul with what looks like a very similar glue in neck (same heel etc) but it's painted after gluing, on the other hand the quick start instructions seem to suggest painting and then gluing. I know it depends on what I want to achieve, but I want to know what the SOP is before I start making decisions. Now I'm going to check if my neck is warped...

Hi Strontium welcome to the forum. Most builders prefer to finish the body and neck separately it's easier to work on. If you do this don't get any finish on the neck heel as glue works best on bare timber. Best of luck. You can glue the neck when the colour coats are done and apply clear coats

Hi Strontium, I was still applying top coats to my EX-1 after gluing in the set neck and because of all the weird angles it proved to be a right proper pain to hang and flip whilst trying to get even coats on the thing. It was hard enough when in two pieces but even harder once put together. Mainly did this as I wanted the finish to blend better around the heel joint and also on the sides of the neck pocket too.

Just a heads up, be careful with scale length and whether you will have room for the neck PUP surround. I was so obsessed with getting the scale length right that I didn't realise there was no room left for the neck PUP surround hence why I ended up 'Top Loading' them. Follow the link in my signature and you can see this in the shots once fully assembled.
