So... small problem... should have purchased the Bigbsy at the start of the project and i wouldnt have run into this issue. Ignore the finish on the top, i havent finished sanding and wanted to do a quick mockup with the bridge
The holes drilled fro the stoptail are too far back and the vibramate i have makes the bigbsy sit too far back hanging off the edge. I guess im going to have to fill the holes with dowl, and sand back, spot paint, and then drill it into where it needs to sit.
I have another small problem, the metal pickup rings are slightly narrower than standard rings. This means in the bridge pickup cavity there is a small gap around the edge. I was orignally going to cover this with the pickguard but as i have decided to bail on that idea i need a solution.
I considered using a thin vaneer and a bit of timber mate to smooth it to the body, sand it smooth and paint over top. Any other ideas??
Matty that Bigsby looks too long for this model, will it compromise the position of the bridge? Fill the tailpiece holes with dowel and sand down as low as you can then fill with timbermate. With the pup cavities I'd glue a small piece of timber to fill the gaps. You will have some refinishing to do

The distance between the bridge and the nut is ok, but its quite tight down that end as you can see.
Hopefully i can do the filling of the holes easily enough without wrecking the finish too badly... likewise with the pickup cavity
Urgh... typical that something always goes wrong, just as its all coming together
I think i should be ok with the gap between the bridge and bigbsy, judging by this Les Paul the gap on mine is roughly the same.
yeah ok Matty, sounds like the Bigsby will just fit then. Don't worry about the finish, if you do the mods carefully shouldn't mess up too much of the existing finish.
That's why it's so important to have all the upgraded hardware for a mock build before you start any finishing.

Oh well, live and learn. Guess my next build will go smoother. Will post updates after the top has been finished
Matty, might be worth doing another mock build before you attempt filling in gaps in the pup cavities. Worth putting both E strings on to make sure the pickup poles are under the strings. Then if you mark the outline of the pup surround you will know exactly how much gap you need to cover. You don't want a situation where your fill in timber is stopping the pups move to the correct position
