DB builds a replica '59 Burst LP

In this thread I will share step by step the process of my latest comission, a replica '59Burst LP.

This won't be an exact copy, there are a quite a few modifications and also the construction method will be different to the standard way of building a LP.

Here is a taster pic of the Quilted Maple top on Honduran Mahogany...

Hells yeah. This is gonna be fun to watch!

EDIT: Gotta agree with Woks, a vid or two of this build would be most appreciated. Especially the top carve process please.

Nice looking bit of Mahogany there DB, definitely going to follow this build diary and would love to watch a series of videos documenting the build process from start to finish as well, I've found myself getting really fascinated about the whole process of building a guitar from scratch after watching a ten-part series on youtube documenting a Stratocaster build from scratch.

Wood is such a great material to work with, don't you agree?

Hey Doc, the photo in the first post is the quilted maple for the drop top but mahogany will be used for the guts of the body - which is not visible in the photo must be underneath the QM

DB will definitely agree with you that wood (timber in his case) is a great material to work with !

Cheers Doc for the links I'll watch some time

Doh.....my bad.....the quilted maple looks nice too, I haven't seen an LP with a quilted maple cap before so it should look great, all the Gibson LPs I've seen had either Flamed-Maple tops or the maple was more plain looking, my LP Studio has a Maple Top that has a bit of figuring on it.

well here's a taste of what a LP with quilted maple can look like Doc, although DB's will be a burst but you get the idea.
I'd love to do one dark blue and green burst and would look like a nice clean swimming pool

    Videos shall be done

Should have done one of the prep and glueing of the top to body, but there was lots of swearing involved due to a twist in one half of the top...
The sound track would have been one continuos beep!
