Looks more like flat sawn Ash to me.. But I have been known to be wrong
There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....
He probably is, be interested in what the guitars construction is as well

Looking at it I reckon its a one piece body, judging by the continuity of the figure.

yeah I agree DB but can't zoom in enough to be sure, might be 2 or more piece body bookmatched nicely

So I reckon one piece.
Cant see him playing an off the shelf axe.

Well I guess as I don't have the tools to do it as a scratchy, nor do I have the cash for a custom shop tele, I can see a TLA-1 hoving into view on the horizon...
Also given how poor a guitarist I am, the 5 string open tune thing will also not feature
