Using Wooden Binding On A Guitar

My buddy Jamie has been recommending a technique for shaping wooden binding, in particular maple. Jamie creates a jig the shape of the guitar. Then gets some pvc pipe seals one end off, stands the pipe upright fills with ammonia. He then puts the maple binding in the ammonia for approx 45 mins. This turns the binding to a cooked spaghetti consistency. You then wrap the foil over the binding to keep heat in while applying a little heat with gun. When it's hot its perfect for dropping into the jig to set overnight. If you have a heat bender all well and good, but this is for those people that don't have or want to go to the extra expense to do a couple of guitars.
