Hand engraving would be the way to go if you want something very special that lasts .Be warned hand engravers charge what seem to be high prices.But the work that goes into using the different tools for lines shading and depth. http://www.engraversaustralia.net/ab...-engraver.html
Another way to do this is etching and the details you can achieve are amazing. This picture enclosed was done by a guy on ebay.
