Hi Kimball,
Interesting. I have two drill presses. the smaller one lives on the shelf under the bench and only comes out to let me look behind it.
I have a 50mm sanding drum( http://www.carbatec.com.au/sanding-drum-sets_c1040 ) that I often use in the big press. I usually stick a piece of merbau under it so tha it just touches the bottom of the drum so I can work stuff on the flat. I like this idea, as it evolves the process a whole new step. now I'll have to build one...

The day I get my own press is the day I will have my own bobbin sander. I have wanted to do it ever since I laid my hands on a drill press!
great idea, now to convert mine!
