Looking at the switch there are 4 lugs and 4 holes, first time wiring these switches. Does it matter which side is which?

This is a diagram I did for a CRL 3-way, 0 is the 'common' lug. The only difference for a 5-way is that in position 2 the 1-2 lugs are linked (3-2 on red side) and in position 4 the 2-3 lugs are linked (2-1 on red side). it doesn't matter which side you use, depending on your wiring setup, as long as you match the contact sequence to the switch position you want. Does that help?

    Scott.
