Awesome tutorial Scott. Really useful information and you are certainly helping me come to grips with the idea of actually using my router (with appropriate protective gear ).

Another example of what makes this forum great. There is so much valuable information on here, it would take months just to digest it all

    Cheers

    Darren

fantastic tutorial Scott, I'll read this in great detail when I get:
    A) out of the naughty room
    B) wifi in the naughty room.

Thanks for taking the time to document it, you have done a great job and the tips are priceless.

That's a brilliant tutorial, Scott. Not only did I learn a lot but you also managed to give me some more tool envy.
Thanks (meant both sincerely and sarcastically) ;-)

    Great stuff Weirdy.
    Your methodology is spot on

Now I have to be the devils advocate here.... I did cringe when I saw your home made router table..
In theory and practice it works fine, my worry lies in the material used for construction.
As you know, there is a lot of side ways torque when you start the router, and my worry is that after a while the structure of the table will gradually weaken and there is the risk of the router parting company by simply tearing its self out of the board... been there with a home made saw bench...

One way to eliminate this risk would be to spend a few bucks on a sheet of 2.5mm steel plate, cut out the slot for the router bit and drill your mount holes then attach it with 50 million screws to the under side of your laminate.
This will give you a much stronger and far safer router table.

There is always a workaround for glitches, mistakes and other Guitar building gremlins.....

Reckon only Stewmac will have that many screws in stock?

Good advice DB, you can't take any risks with routers. As you know you still have a router bit on your neighbours roof somewhere.
The only place I can think of that have 50 million screws would be about 10 of the large green buildings, but I will just stay another month in the naughty room for mentioning that ! haha
