    Acoustic Guitar to Lapsteel Mod

This morning I did a little mod to an acoustic guitar I have hanging around the house.

This mod has been done before in a million different ways but I thought it was fun to take some photos along the way and a short video to document my approach.

first I took some measurements and sketched on a piece of paper the general idea. The digital caliper is not an essential, just a little flex.

On a random piece of timber I had hanging around I sketched the model.

Using a disproportionate amount of tools I finally cut the thing

the next 20mins or so was about shaping it and making it not so high, until it looked like this.
no glue nothing, it just holds there

the good thing is that it sounds pretty decent, it costed nothing and it was fun to spend an hour making something

the "downside" is that I had to tune it down to open C (CGCGCD), that was the only string tension that seemed reasonable. In theory the whole idea was to make this mod to have a second lapsteel in a different key, like open D or open E since I already have a DYI made (electric) lapsteel tuned to C

in any case good fun, highly recommended, non intrusive mod
