    May Guitar of the Month

    May Guitar of the Month (for Guitars and Basses finished in April)

    Enter your finished guitar or bass here to be judged for the Pit Bull Guitars May Guitar of the Month.

    Please remember:

    For Guitars or Basses finished on (or before) the end of April.

    One guitar/bass per member per month.
    It must be a Pit Bull Guitars kit (mods and upgrades acceptable).
    Guitar or Bass must be finished and playable.

    We need at least 4 photos:
    · full guitar shot from the front;
    · close up of the body finish;
    · shot of the back of the guitar; and
    · close up of the headstock (please, no brand name logos)

    Please post your photos in this thread. If you are having issues posting photos on the forum, please email them to brendan (at) pitbullguitars (dot) com

    Please note: This competition is open to amateur guitar builders only. If you are making and selling guitars for profit, you are ineligible. Also while there are some stunning guitars around - you never know what the judges are looking for, so we encourage anyone who's built a Pitbull during the month to enter!

    Competition for May closes at the end of April (Perth Western Australian time).

    The sorts of things we judge on include:
    · How well have the body and neck been prepared
    · Is the choice of finish for the style of guitar appropriate
    · How well has the finish been applied
    · How well has all the hardware, pickups, etc, been installed
    · Does it have the 'Wow Factor'· Which guitar would you make a beeline for in a guitar shop. That is, which one would you most like to take home.

    BTW - remember that the winner is invited to be a guest judge the following month!

    Here is my submission - an ES1-F kit that was a 30th birthday present from my wife, parents and in-laws.

    The body top has been stripped of the flame veneer, with a cherry red/black blend of Colortone. The rest of the guitar (including the pickguard) has a diluted mahogany/wanut blend using Feast Watson prooftint. The top coat is Cabots Exterior clear gloss, with the neck and fretboard dulled to a satin finish for smoother playing. The pickguard is 3mm plywood.

    Upgraded/custom hardware includes Grover mini locking tuners, bone nut, Bigsby B700, Alpha full-size pots, switchcraft output jack, terminal blocks in the pickup cavities (for easy pickup changes), shielded wiring and a custom 3-way rotary selector, switching between bright, full and mellow tones.

    DrJackalope's TL-12:
    The 12 string paddle on a TL always messes with my head, but in a good way. Great natural looking top of the body that works well with the contrast of the back. Interesting mix of gold and black hardware that suits the overall natural wood grain really nicely. Way better than I would have expected. Nice choices for hardware and upgrades. I really like it.
    Nicely done – not a great fan of the 12 string headstock, but you’ve made it all work together nicely. Classic choices of colour highlight the grain rather than hide it. Nicely done. Would be nice to see a logo somewhere.

    Thigg88's TL-1A:
    The subtle colour with the visible grain works really well with the classic TL deluxe style and black plastics. It looks clean, classic and something you'd want to pick up everyday and play. Very nice.
    Nice and clean colour choice – the result speaks for itself. Classy guitar that would not be out of place in anyone’s collection.

    kman43's ES1-F :
    I love the colours on the top and back, and great result from removing the flame top. Gold hardware look spectacular and highlights the excellent choice of upgrades. Headstock face isn't as smooth as I expected, but great overall look. Well done.
    Spectacular finish – love the level of gloss. Great work. Only real detractor is the headstock and lack of a logo.
