    TL-1 build

Started the build today. I’ve ordered the Mojotone pickups so I’ve got plenty of time to do a great job. I’ve filed off the edge where the forearm rests. I like how strats have this so I’m doing it to this Tele.

Sanding, sanding and more sanding. It’s pretty smooth from the factory but always can be smoother

I've seen plenty of people here do this but I don't trust enough in my abilities to take off large chunks of timber and not make it look like I've taken off large chunks of timber. Maybe next time I do a tele I'll give it a crack. That and the taper on the other side.

Two of the teles I've built (1 PBG, 1 non) have front and back comfort contours (ala strat). I think it makes a great guitar design even greater!

I've said this numerous time here but, I have done my contouring with a 4" angle grinder and a 80 grit flap disc.
Not for the faint of heart though! At 10,000 RMP, it makes short work of any timber!

I did this on one of my teles too, using a belt sander. Wow it melted through the ash pretty quick too!

+1 for angle grinder and flap discs, just clearly mark your contour lines and sneak up to just shy of them, then finish with shaped sanding cauls.
Oh and um, keep your fingers clear of the spinning disc. Ask me how I know..😳

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.
