For a guide, here's a Gordon Smith Strat I refinished for a friend (The GS finish was terrible)
Original body (just started stripping before I remembered that I hadn't taken an original finish photo). It had a much lighter centre section, orange peel and clumps of darker spray colour in the burst and very patchy levels of brown on the edges :
Refinished body in a more standard Fender style after trying to darken the lighter section as much as possible so it didn't stick out like a sore thumb:
So yes, I'd so with white as well, (or maybe mint green).
That sort of burst suits a lot of different colour guards. Black looks good, but I do prefer a white. It's hard to get a guard that doesn't look too white. The guard and pickup covers on the Hexacaster were aged white, but look almost brilliant white until you compare them against the original kit guard and pickup covers, which are a real brilliant white.
The white knobs and pickups with the white pickguard look great.

That was exactly what I was going to say! Until the finish is... finished... I'd keep an open mind to see what looks best with the gloss. But I think your pic shows that once the shine is on it will look different.
Making the world a better place; one guitar at a time...
Haha then go black! I know where you are, just went through the whole colour picking process for the upgrades on my tele. similar colours and also maple neck. I went white.
Looked a bit fresher, but then again, will only know when the pickguard arrives if I really like it.
Nice.
Presumably the white/black lead pickup is the RWRP one?
