Thanks McCreed, vh2580, Simon and Dozy.

Actually, I know nothing about wood carving either! That is possibly why I had some trouble with the skull!! My first version looked like C3PO had been run over with a heavy roller.

The "carving" is done with a bench sander (mainly the belt, often at the curved end), hand held RO sander and the dremel with a small drum sander attachment. Some woodcarving chisels may have been useful (note to self for next time).

Still got lots to do - but progress has been made, and I think I'm on the right track.

Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.

Finished the finger bones and worked on the guitar body grafts. I think I only 2 body grafts - one for the skull and one on the the top horn for the thumb.

Knowing you've achieved that with reasonably crude tools, I'm even more impressed now!

I could only further impressed if you had said you did it with "stone knives and bear claws"

That's how he made the pickup.

Today I grafted on the extension to hold the skull and thumb. The skull section is dowelled to the body to give the join a bit more strength. So hopefully, when the skull part is glued on, it will be super strong.
