No advice here, just thought I'd share that I recently acquired my first Purple Heart fretboard neck. It's still in the finishing stages, but I like how it feels and looks. I was unaware of this timber as a fretboard material until I was looking for a replacement neck.
However, the PH on mine must be aged a bit because it's not the vivid purple it's known for. It's gone a dark purple-ish brown, which I don't mind.
Making the world a better place; one guitar at a time...
Plain and simple for me also. The wenge.
Though the Sheoak fretboard was great also!
But I would love to see a purple heart fretboard - not sure what colour the body would need to be to carry it off.
Soooo - Just build 4 necks and use all the woods.
PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1, TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1.
Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.
The little voices in my head keep telling me "build more guitars"
You've just reminded me that I have another Sheoak slice lurking in the stack.....somewhere. Perhaps more investigation is needed. Though your idea on making 4 necks is noted....The Purple Heart and the Wenge are long enough to do bass boards, and they and the NG Rosewood are thick enough blanks to be split in twain. I can definitely get at least another two standard fretboards out of the remaining Zebrano.
8 more necks! Good plan Trev!
