Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

You could also add in the cost of the beer consumed whilst pondering over the build.

Ouch, good ply is not cheap. I made my tele templates out of mdf because the price couldn't be beat , but something sturdier would definitely be better if you want to keep them around for long.

What kind of ply did you end up with?

Hi Ross. Premium plywood BC Grade 1200x596x18mm.
The book states, three 24x21x3/4” glued together to create a thickness of 2 1/4”, so with the panels cut in half that’s close enough with one left over which I could probably use as a holding cradle. The mould is also used for side bending with water and heat.

Oooh now I see. I completely misunderstood the requirement, that makes sense.

I’m glad Ross asked the question, got me thinking. I’m going to need that spare panel for a bending press mould. The guitar mould width is slightly shorter than the sides, but use the wasted wood and add another layer, hey presto you have a side bending mould.

Mould laminated together and outline drawn. Awaiting band-sawing.
A depth gage made from aluminium and pine found in ‘the pile’. Not as fancy as the tool in the book but should get the job done.
Thinking about heading over to the timber shop to see what they’ve got in their back room.
