    Damn sabre tooth rasp!

It all Looked fine before i started rubbing in the colour. Then Pop! Out came the imperfections…….
You’d think I would have learnt after a few guitars…but nooooooo. Not me.

Ive sanded back all the rough areas and will attempt another colour rub

Im not very impressed with my choice of timber colour as it seems “plasticy” in the thicker areas to i think i will be applying it a lot thinner / more delicately the second go around.

Gotta love that feeling... I just assume the first coat of anything will reveal imperfections... And then I decide whether to embrace them or not.

I've got a wall full of imperfections. I prefer to call it character, or uniqueness.

Ooh bugger! That’s always the little kick in the nuts with the first colour coat eh?
Whats the old forum adage “sand, sand, sand and when you think you’re done, sand some more!”.
hopefully it’s not too much trouble to sort out?

I hope that's not from the Japanese rasps I suggested earlier!

Yep. This is me embracing my imperfections!

Back looks good. Front looks good.
Neck blemishes are not coming out. Arrrgghhh……

Ill just sit and contemplate this for a day.

    I like it!
I'm not really an SG guy, but it's nice to see one that isn't vintage cherry!

If the neck blemishes aren't coming out, then you really need to go to a coarser grit paper.

I think I probably did three itterations of sanding and re-staining on my SGs until I found and removed all the stubborn filing/sanding marks left over from enlarging the bevels and adjusting the neck heel shape.

I am on my 3rd SG copy and I use a half round rasp to rough out the bevel, then I go to a half round Bastard then finish off with a half round Second Cut. Both of these files are mainly used on metal but as they are of a coarser style they smooth out the wood fine. I got both of mine for between $10-$15 with handles. I then use some 180 grit sand paper and finish off with 240 grit. If you want to see how your finish is going I use some Shellite to clean the surface and it shows any imperfections as well as remove and oil from my hands.
