    Primer filler applied

Sprayed 4 wet coats of primer filler according the the "Phrozin" method. Went mostly well and I am impressed with the Spray Max spray cans as they give a very good spray pattern almost like a spray gun. One drip at the end of the headstock to fix as I could not pick up the body using the neck after the first coat was applied. May have to attach something to a tuner hole that I can lift the neck up with when I do the colour and clear coats.

That looks good. Are you planning to spray the colour before scraping the binding, and then clear over the lot? I'd be interested in which paints you're using (aside form the primer) and where you sourced them from.

    Tape and Paint

Its not obvious in the photos but the binding on the body is taped up with thin tape the good 3M stuff. The neck is taped up with paper masking tape. I am going to do the colour with the tape in place and then take the tape off the binding (body and neck) for the clear coats. It is inevitable some bleed of paint will occur so the binding will be scraped before the clear coats go on. The colour and the clear are from the local car paint supplier and are recommended by them. I havent used them before but they supposedly have the better spray nozzles like the Spray Max can.

Oh I found the handle from a small foam brush I had lying about to be the perfect size to fit tightly in the tuner hole to help me hold the neck up after the first coat of paint has been applied.

    Painted Black

Its been a bit cold in Hobart lately to paint so today it was warmer and coincided with my day off so out came the spray cans. I had already sanded the undercoat with 240 and 400 grit sandpaper to get it very smooth. 3 times 3 wet coats were applied ("Phrozin method") 20 mins between each lot of 3 coats. The cans sprayed very nicely without any runs. The wide spray nozzles are very good to use. A nice satin finish black guitar resulted that was quite smooth. Maybe spray the clear coat on the weekend if the weather is warm enough.

Binding is about to be revealed and scraped very soon. The binding is the standard binding and not the 7 ply les paul custom binding so it wont be a true les paul custom copy. Also no binding on the headstock on this kit. It will be a MSS (my initials) custom. I do have a split diamond decal to install though.

    Binding scraped decals applied.

Too cold in Hobart to spray the clear coat today so final prep finished. Bindings scraped, fretboard retaped and decals added. The MSS decal was printed on white decal paper and the image reversed in colour ie the black text became white and the white background became black. The split diamond is actually a sticker not a decal. All ready for the final coat when the weather is warmer and above 10 deg !!. I hope the tuners do not cover too much of the sticker. Could not check as the gold grovers are on backorder.
