    TJD #2 scratch Axe bass

So, being a big Kiss fan, I have always wanted an Axe Bass.
So after getting a slab of paulownia of Dozymuppet I decided that the time has come.
I have ordered a PB neck (SSR-4 type) which is a bolt-on, 2x2 paddle and a PB-4 chrome hardware kit. Arrival date is in October.
I will try to use a JB style for the bridge pup and a PB style for the neck pup. 1 volume, 1 tone and a 3 way switch.

    I have sanded the body slab down using a belt sander - started with 40 g, 80 g and 120 g.
Sketched a rough outline of the axe from a web picture.
Cut out the body using a jigsaw.
    Sanded the body down.
Routed out the electronics cavity using a handheld router - (but I need to get a pattern following router bit rather than using a collar guide). My bit was not deep enough so I also have to drill out some wood to get to 5 mm thickness top.
Also made a cover plate for the electronics cavity out of 3 ply pickguard material.
    PitBull Builds: FVB-4, LP-1SS, FBM-1, AG-2, TB-4, SSCM-1, TLA-1, TL-1TB, STA-1HT, DSCM-1 Truckster, ST-1, STA-1, MBM-1.

Scratch Builds: Pine Explorer, Axe Bass, Mr Scary, Scratchy Tele's.

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

    Nice work.

Must be time consuming having to put all that face make-up on when you work on it and then take it off again when you stop. Still, at least you can still walk down the street without being mobbed.

Nice work trev.. You beat me to the punch. I have a custom YB-4 on it's way (eventually) with the intention of modifying it into an axe with aspects of the Cort and Kramer axes.

    Cool project Trevor, looking good.

I had two mates who went to a KISS concert here in Brisbane several years ago. One of them went wearing a sky blue safari suit. My other mate said you could spot him from the other side of the auditorium amid all the black and silver. True story.

Gunna be a heck of a lot lighter than the originals. The Corts are Mahogany, the Kramers I believe were Maple. Not sure what the Jacksons in between or the two before the Kramers. With Simmons' frame, he could handle the weight.
