I used dowels to join the 3 piece body of my pinewood explorer and that has held for about 30 years. My only regret is that I did not consider the placement of the dowels carefully enough and some were visible on the narrower parts of the body, and some were partially routed out for the pup cavity.

I would be more careful if I get another go! Though if I do try another scratch build I would possible use a mitre joining router bit, or glue joint router bit.

Nice selection Dozy. Was The Bloke well stocked with interesting timber?

Plenty of interesting timber. Endless project possibilities, I suppose. At the moment it's all browsing and learning, and making sure I don't end up with a box full of wood that I keep besides my bed for constant contemplation. Because, you know, that would be weird, right?

Hand crafting guitars, because Death Rays are expensive.

I'm going to order a stack of Paulownia from Melbourne. Any Perthan's interested if I get a bit extra? I'm aiming to keep at least enough for two projects, but minimum order means I'll probably end up with enough for 4 or 5 projects.

Thanks for the offer but I’ll pass on it. I’m currently not interested in building a solid body and from a quick search it doesn’t seem a likely choice for acoustic or semi acoustic (but correct me if I’m wrong). Sorry I can’t help out.

All good. Definitely not for hollow body work.

    Hi Dozy,
Thanks for the offer. What would be the size of the wood and approx' cost?

    Hi Trevor,

I'm probably grabbing some rough sawn 1m lengths of both 38x100 and 38x150. These will have to be joined to make up a 350mm wide slab. (100+150+100).

I think the max width they do is 300, but I'm checking if they can maybe do 310 or 320, because a single piece would obviously be preferable.

At the moment, my rough calculations are that enough wood for a single project could be as low as $20, plus a split of whatever the shipping cost works out to. TBC.
