Get rid of glue marks in stained veneer

I know I have read something about it, but I can’t remember a technique to repair the excess glue that makes the stain not stick on the veneer.
    Thanks for any help!

Only idea I can think of would be to lightly scrape out the glue strip, fill with natural timber mate, then reapply the stain to that section.
    Cheers Waz

    Thanks wazkelly,
I finally got rid of the glue make by using a hair dryer to soften the glue and lightly scrape the area with a blade.
