    Decisions, decisions...

Santa decided I was a good boy, and that I should order a new kit

I'm on the downhill on my daughter's STA-1M, and my first build was a JBA-4M. So I probably shouldn't do another F-style kit this time (though I do really want that baritone at some stage...).

I'm keen for a new challenge, and also keen for something a bit more "shred". At the moment I'm tossing up between the GPR-1M and the AIB-1Q.

I can't quite figure out the GPR, but I love the offset shape. But that would be a veneer top and binding, AND a set neck, neither of which I have tackled before. Whereas the AIQ is a less intimidating veneer top, and a bolt-on neck.

    Any opinions?

Haha. That certainly would simplify one thing... and complicate others.

I don't recognise what design the GPR is based on, but it is a classy shape and gets you into that 2 HB 24-3/4" scale territory without being the classic LP shape.

As for the trifecta of veneer/binding/set neck, that's all the more reason to go for it IMO. The ST is coming along nicely, the JB looks great, and I'm sure you learnt something new with each one (I know I still do even after 8). I reckon you've got enough experience with those first two to push your boundaries a little.
There's always plenty of help here... but you knew that already

    Quite

The "problem" with the GPR is that it's hard to tell how thinline it is in those photos. I already have a Gretsch Electromatic (obviously thicker than the GPR), which has me leaning towards the AIB.

As Fretty made note of when the GPR first came up, it's based on a Languedoc body shape with a 3x3 headstock. As for thickness/thinline-ness...
