I don't have any neck dive on my EX-1, and I'm not sure quite why anyone would. Especially as on a strap you almost always rest your forearm on the body. My EX-1 does have an alder body, which is heavier than basswood, but it also has heavy self-locking tuners, which does counter the heavy body.

I'd use a meter on the pickup cables. You may be lucky and have just have cosmetic damage. Otherwise its cutting and joining the cables.

The mounting ring screws will need the ends cutting off.

@Simon Barden: thank you for the neck dive info!

As for the pickup wires: unfortunately I did not have to use a meter. Half of the neck PU and the full bridge is dead : (

    I am fixing it now…

    F*cked up wires fixed.
    Huhh.

As for neck dive: @Simon Barden, where did you put the strap pins? I am considering the back one in the middle line and the front one also on the edge.

I can't help with the neck dive questions, but the screws through the pickup leads reminded me that I had that happen to me once also.

I don't even remember what guitar it was, but the bridge pickup went dead and then worked when I removed the mounting ring. It had me checking and rechecking all my solder connections and scratching my head until I worked out the mounting screw was shorting the lead!

So if it's any consolation, you're not the first one to have this happen!

    Me three:
I had the mounting ring screw go through the switch wires on a LP style guitar. Top switch position and middle switch positions worked as they should, but both pups were on in the bottom switch position. It had me checking and rechecking my wiring. All fixed when I removed the top right screw.

Is that enough to start a support group???

    Support group hehehe

Trevor Davies and McCreed, thank you for sharing.

The location of the channel connecting the bridge pickup cavity with the back cavity sets us all up for this kind of failure by design.
This was my first build and I can say this is the trickiest part. I even watched some videos about the process, nobody mentioned this dangerous closeness of the ring mount screw and the pickup wires - this would be the first thing I’d mention if I were to make an instructional video.

So on second thought: let’s start a support group!

The neck dive issue is more pronounced with the EX-4 because the neck is longer, so it puts the weight of the tuners further out. As Simon says , you don't realy notice it much with a strap because you forearm naturally lands on the rear horn , so that kinda pushes down the back of the body.I have see two position for the front strap button, but neither helps much with neck dive. One is where you have it, the other is on the heel of the neck.

My strap buttons are on the neck heel (just on the body side of the join line) and about 20mm above the centre line on the rear edge.

Best spot without a doubt, even more so on the EX-5 as it is so much longer and has 5 tuners attached.
