I just had a look at my 5-String Acoustic/Electric bass (it has an onboard preamp for the piezoelectric pickup, located under the plastic bridge-saddle), and found that it also needs a full set of new tuners, all the original ones are knackered, so this coming week I'm going to order some new tuners and a set of strings from Stewmac, I'm going to try a set of DAddario 130-45 gauge roundwound bass strings and see how they go, I did notice that the 5-string bass's neck does have a truss-rod adjustment at the heel-end of the neck.
One thing I will need to do is re-glue the existing nut back into position cause it literally fell-off when I removed all the old strings, no big deal.

I just found out that Stewmac sells bottles of Lemon Oil, so, I'm going to order one cause the 5-string bass's fretboard badly needs treating with some Lemon Oil.
