Yes, the tuners are metal of a smaller diameter than the nylon poles found on classical guitars, so finer tuning as you described. Using flat wound strings I don’t change then very often, therefore not an issue. From the moment I posted the photos and compared them my mind was made up. If anything I might make it slightly narrower at the nut end but it will a question of practicality from here on.

That's all fine then.

Just consider headstock strength before taking too much wood away at the nut area. You've got the truss rod cut-out weakening the area, and it's an angled mahogany neck, so you really need as much wood around that area as you can live with for strength.

Half way through the head stock I’m wondering if I should of stuck a veneer on top to provide extra strength. Not too late, just annoying to take off 2mm. I don’t know much about mahogany but It was soft enough for me to be able to push the hole punch into the sides easily enough. Btw, Simon is correct regarding neck and headstock all being one piece.

Ok, couldn’t help myself. I’m sure it would of been fine but making a veneer sandwich will make it nice and strong.

Yeah that 1/2" plywood should make it really strong!
