Thinking about ‘out there’, but unfortunately I haven’t got a clear idea of where this one is heading.
    Pickup hole cut.

I’ve had a sneaky suspicion there is a prominent glue line down the central join of the veneer. I’ve used acetone and given it a light sand, but this is what I find when I add stain to my pickup hole waste.
My ‘out there’ idea has moved up through the options.

I'd keep playing with that off-cut to see how clean you can get it, then if successful, apply the method to the rest of the body.

    Watching with interest regardless...

I thought I’d gone as far as I was prepared to go given how hard I’d gone with the acetone and the thinness of the veneer. I’ll have another go at it another day.

Well I had another go, I ended up going through the centre and scraping it out. Here’s the result. Will cause some damage but got stain in there and clear coating will hide some sins, but is the result worth it?

I think it is a lot better. Hard to detect any sins in the second picture, but easily seen in the first IMO. But it is your build!
    Good luck.

Nice work! I reckon it's worth the effort, and willing to bet that you'd really find your rhythm with the removal process now that you've had a good result on the off-cut.

Like Trevor said, it is your build, so your choice.

It’s bit of an agricultural approach but it doesn’t look too bad in the photo. Clear coats may enable me to get away with it.

Thanks to Eric67 and his glue spots in veneer thread I’ve got a finish in mind.
