PS Cracked Mirror Iceman starter kit is Here!

My IC-1 PitBull arrived today. All looks good in the box.

    And out.

My aim here is to duplicate Pail $tanleys PS10 Cracked Mirror Iceman.
I have ordered the mix of bindings/purfling to replicate his "Deluxe Binding" and have some 3mm plastic mirror for making the cracks as well as the (impossible to find) reflective pick guard and the Truss Rod cover.

After ordering the IC-1 kit I started making a template for all the cracks needed.
    BUT to my horror

I discovered that PS10 is longer in the body than IC-1 by quite a bit which ultimately loses the PS10 sleekness (and room for longer shards of mirror).
I spoke to a wood guru friend who I play guitar with who said "no problem mate", if I gave him a PDF of the PS10 he could computer cut it out at his cabinet making factory.
    Yippee!
A sign writer I also know was happy to let me have his plastic mirror cut offs to use too. I really am blessed to have such generous mates plus it keeps the overall expense of this geetah down to a minimum.
    Yeah, I'm cheap. That's why I'm here.
Anyway, keep popping by and I'll keep loading pics etc. Please leave your comments and criticisms etc. I'm tough, I can handle the truth. This is my first build but I have a really clear idea of how to achieve the best looking budget Iceman Cracked Mirror guitar around.
    Cheers

Had an acrylic (plastic/perspex, whatever) mirror scratch plate on a Strat Copy. Looked great but that only lasted a short while as the plastic scratches up very easily which took away some of the reflective properties. Real glass mirror is too fragile and needs to be thicker than 3mm.....I speak with experience having done a 5mm thick glass mirror scratchplate on an Ibanez Explorer back in early 1980's which was an attempted nod to the PS10. The glass mirror didn't scratch but plenty of hot sweaty nights playing worked it's way underneath and caused that old antique mirror craze effect around the edges. Maybe you could try a glass mirror for the LP style scratch plate or shape one out of Brass and then find somewhere to get it chromed. Again, on my 80's Explorer I found Brass pickup rings and a switch knob and got them chromed which added just that little bit extra bling which didn't scratch or play up in any other undesirable way.

Hope this helps to provoke some creative thoughts.

    Cheers, Waz

All the kits are slightly different from the original guitars, for legal reasons. It’s the same reason we always tell people to put their own name on the headstock and to avoid using the brand of the original guitar.

Thanks Fretworn. I'm factitious when it comes to anything I copy so I will re cut the right shaped body and use the neck from the kit. I'm certainly not trying to fake an PS10 just faithfully reproduce one for my personal KI$$ Kollection!

Thanks Waz, Much appreciated. I've got a bit of time to kill while I wait for bindings, purflings etc. so I will take your advice onboard while I ponder the endless possibilities.
