You can spray some poly over the decal to bury it.

I use the exterior marine grade aerosol cabots from the Big Green Shed. They do satin and gloss in the aerosol. I spray 3 coats ten minutes apart...wait two days...wet sand 600 grit...3 more coats....wet sand 800...repeat to 1500 grit if you need.

    This is the gloss....

Thanks for the advice ozzbike. I presume you just do the headstock with careful taping of everything else?

Think bigger picture with aerosol cans.....trying to tape up close and personal is really hard. For headstock decals I mask off the whole fingerboard....then the neck from where the flat of the headstock meets it. I also run a strip up each edge of the headstock from the nut area to the first corner.

I go at least halfway down the back of the neck in the first photo with the tape.....but not all the way.

When you wet sand the line you spray in the first photo at the back of the headstock will easily fade into the neck.
