    staining and filling

i'm gathering up supplies and things i need for the kit, and i'm not sure what the correct way to stain an ash body would be
i'll be getting an ash body MBM-1, and i want to do a burst on it
i understand i need to apply some black stain, sand it down after drying, and only then i do the blue burst itself.
do i use wood grain filler before the black stain?
or maybe use filler with some black stain in it, and then i sand it down?

also, what sort of poly do i need for the clear coats? water based? solvent based (this is what i'm guessing is correct)?
i asked around and people here didnt like the local brands - is there a good brand that can be ordered on amazon?

and what do i use for polishing at the end?

    thank you!

Where are you based (general info only needed / state / region / country)? There are some nice stains out there that are only available in some areas.
