2 x 12 cab build

This year I somehow went from having all the time in the world to having hardly any, so all my guitar projects are sadly gathering dust while I wait for work to settle down.

On the upside I have a little more cash, so I bought myself a 100W Katana head and was going to go buy a 2x12 cab. Then I thought I could probably squeeze a bit of cab building in around work and family - the kids are going to my dads for a weekend in a few weeks, so I can cut the timber etc and then hopefully tolex and do the other fiddly bits when they're back.

Anyway, I've ordered some bits and drawn up a plan.

Currently going for 2 x vintage 20's, and a vertical cab with recessed handles.

Will keep you posted as I go...

I made a 1 X 12 earlier in the year that houses a V30. Acts as an extension for my AVT50 and standalone for use with the mini Marshall I made.

Do you mean Vintage 30s?

Have you done any research into this? A quick look around seems to indicate that the Katana is a bit bass light in output compared to many other amps, so you need a speaker (or a cab design) that has a decent amount of bass, otherwise it can sound a bit unconvincing.

It's slowly coming together. I have the handles, corners, and speakers already, and the nuts and bolts are in the post.

I'll order the tolex this pay, and will cut the holes for the handles today. Will try to get it covered when the kids are away in a few weeks.



I also ordered a bunch of grill samples, and have narrowed it down to these. Torn between the red/black and the mandarin/black...

Done! (Well, I still have to tolex the back panel, but effectively it's done)

Ended up finding a second hand G12T 75, in my home town of all places. So it has a V30 and the G12T, and I'm going to use the extra V30 and all the leftover tolex and grill fabric to make a smaller 1 x 12 to actually take places
