    Neck scratch build question

    Hi All

I am attempting another scratch build which I will detail in My Build Diary in due course but I have a question for you all.

This time I am building a neck again, but I plan to use Tulipwood as the main neck material with an Ebony fretboard and Jescar Gold EVO frets.
Maybe a weird choice of neck material but I am willing to experiment

Note that this is the North American tulipwood and is NOT poplar.
The wood I have is hard, straight grained heartwood - similar in feel and weight to maple but slightly yellow/honey colour.
Cutting and carving with a sharp chisel feels the same as maple - definitely hard.
Views on this wood seem to vary in the internet. Most of them are confusing it with poplar.

I know most will say 'just use maple' but it is not available anywhere near me at the present.
I can only find one person on the forum who has used tulip wood but his was a laminated neck.

What are your views and/or experiences?
The neck will be a gibson style/size neck if that makes a difference.

    Cheers
    Ricky

I have no direct experience but I'm sure it'll be fine. I've built a couple of necks and I used a type of eucalypt that's widely available here for the fret board and it worked no problems.

One of the best ways find out is to just give it a go.
