I'd like to adjust the string spacing on my AG-1. The saddles on the supplied bridge have quite deep notches, so won't allow for a small spacing adjustment. I have not been able to find un-notched saddles on-line at a price that makes them worthwhile, i.e. I can buy a complete Gotoh bridge for less. The saddles on a new Gotoh are still noticed, but only a very small notch from what I can tell.
You can of course simply file down the existing saddles at an angle until the current notches have gone, then cut your own. The bridge will have to be set slightly higher to compensate, but only by 1mm or so. You obviously lose the plating, but it's cheap!
Thanks guys. I am still thinking of getting a new bridge without notches, but in the meantime I ended up filing down the saddles of my existing bridge.
I had noticed that the three high strings' saddles had smaller notches, and I have a spare bridge, so thought I might be able to mix and match saddles between those two bridges to give me six with only small notches. It turns out (what I thought were) very similar of not identical bridges were quite different - even the string spacing was a mm or so different. The saddles were completely different with one set being much shorter than the other. That's what gave me the idea to make the "tall" notched set into a "short" no-notch set. That's worked pretty well - at least well enough for now.
I understand that US bridges might well be different to those available here, in that they have imperial measurements. That's put me ff getting one from the US.
Post diameters. bush threads and mounting hole spacing will almost certainly be slightly different on those designed for USA made guitars. You could look out for sets made for standard Epiphones, as they will be metric.
