Thread: Build #10 & #11 - AG-1F x2

  1. #41
    It's finished, aside from a couple of parts I'm waiting on. I've been waiting for a ZerO Glide nut that I ordered for this two months ago - still no idea where that is. But I started this so long ago, I forgot I bought a Tusq nut so I've temporarily put this in. I've filed it down a bit but I still need to work the slots and get the strings lower as open chords sound horribly out of tune. Also waiting for a Pure Tone multi-contact jack (more potential to screw up some soldering).

    Still got all the neck work to do but I'm just going to let it settle for a bit while strung up before I do all that.

    Details:
    AGM-3F - Mahogany body with mahogany neck and ebony fretboard.
    Upgrades/kit deviations-
    * Tonerider AC4 neck/bridge set
    * Tonerider AC2 neck in the middle position (may experiment with running this out of phase but standard wiring for now)
    * Gotoh Magnum locking tuners
    * SixStringSupplies CTS pots (thanks Adam)
    * Switchcraft 3-way switch
    * Chrome/metal pickup surrounds
    * Some ugly volume/tone knobs that looked a lot better in the website photos and might get replaced at some point
    * Home made cavity cover fashioned from some 3mm ply (I hate plastic)

    Will get some audio samples up when I've finished all the neck/nut work and got some decent strings on it (the last two sets of Ernie Balls I've got with my kits seem to have corrosion on the unwound strings and are quite lumpy)

    Looks nice m0j0. Finish came up great.

    I get what you mean about the knobs. They just don't look right. Maybe on another colour body, but...

    I think a set of Amber bell knobs would work nicely.

    I ordered a ZerO Glide nut for this build a couple of months ago from 'Murica. Hadn't seen any tracking updates for nearly two months but I checked again today. I think there's something wrong with their routing system. Keep in mind that Illinois is two states over from Arkansas.

    August 5 - USPS Facility - Bentonville, Arkansas
    August 5 - USPS Facility - Fayetteville, Arkansas
    August 9 - In transit to next facility
    October 1 - Customs Clearance, CANADA
    October 5 - Arrived at USPS Regional Facility, Chicago IL International Distribution Center
    October 6 - Departed USPS facility in Chicago. Currently in transit to destination.

    I've ordered a set of chrome knobs (I thought the ones I got were supposed to be chrome but obviously read that wrong). I like the look of all chrome on red, even if the red is not as dark as I was expecting.

    Like knurled dome knobs?
    If so, those will look great! I didn't think of that before.

    No, I did see some of those available and almost bought them, but I went with these instead. I may fall back to the dome knobs depending on how these turn out, but I kinda prefer the tophat look on an SG.

    Those are cool too! I don't think I've seen chrome top hats before.
