    Thanks heaps guys! Wired it up as above and (I believe) it works! At least, the tone knobs do tone stuff and the 5-way does switch stuff

    Still needs some finishing touches but very happy that it's playable.

    It's something you don't need to worry about too much. I think the magic goes in gradually as you work on the guitar. As to the smoke, the electronics are VERY low current. If you get something wrong it may buzz or not work but nothing is going to burn ;-)

    Hope this made some sense! I think I'll try it in that configuration and see what happens tonight.
    It makes sense. If it works, great! (Please let us know). If it doesn't, let us know what it's doing, and we'll go from there ;-)

    I don't think that anyone has asked dumber questions here than I have. I have always gotten a useful answer.
