This isn't the purple you are looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.
Mantra: No more pedals, must finish BlueyCaster...
Disclaimer: I haven't done woodwork since high school, and wasn't really paying attention at the time ...

Surely there was a 'deep purple' gag someone could have made here?

Other than binning the paint as soon as it was opened that suggestion stands tall, I'm a di*k head :-(

It was so hard when admitting my dumb move to not use a "deep purple" reference.

I bought several cans of acrylic lacquer spray paint from the hardware store. When I started having finish problems, I did a little research and found that particular spray paint was discontinued almost 10 years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if I found out that stuff was 15 years old.

Sometimes it would literally bubble like a spilled soda when sprayed, even after soaking the cans in warm water, shaking them for 5 minutes straight, and painting on dry days, waiting WEEKS between coats, etc. Sometimes a coat of clear would wrinkle the bone dry color coat underneath!Click image for larger version.

Lesson learned: Use fresh paint!! Use quality paint!

Most of mine involve measuring twice and making the same error both times...
Build #1, failed solid body 6 string using neck from a scrapped acoustic (45+ odd years ago as a teenager!)
Build #2, ugly parlour semi with scratch built body and ex Peavey neck
Build #3, Appalachian Dulcimer from EMS kit
    Build #4, pre-owned PB ESB-4
    Build #5, Lockdown Mandolin
Build #6, Sixty six body for Squier
    Build #7, Mini Midi Bass

I'm assuming that polishing through the finish and having to redo it is just considered a standard learning point, but what about doing it twice in succession in exactly the same place?

Oooh, this is also one of my personal favorites. Measure, measure, cut, realize you measured wrong, twice.
I don't know what I'm doing but I hope I will end up with a guitar
