Finally glued the neck and filled the step between neck and body with wood and wood putty...The shape/transition seems quiet smooth...

After lot of grainfilling and sanding it seems to be ready for coloring...

Started painting...First added two coats of a grey wood primer, using 2 spray cans from "dupli color wood primer"...sanded a little bit...
Everything seems quiet smooth, but the surface is still not everywhere perfect...lets see...just too many hours spent so far...need to finish...but for the first build ever I am quiet satisfied so far...

For the final black mat finish I will use the "dupli color ral 9005" spray cans...

Thank you! Yeah, I really tried hard...
But actually it is not that perfect...the primer and first colourcoat made some mistakes visible...but overall it's fine 🙂

The surface is really far from being perfect, the mobile pictures can not show it, but there are different structures, so you get a kind of gradient within the mat black...especially front and back of the body (of course), the sides and the neck are great...

Actually I expeted this when I was done with the grainfiller and sanding the wood...it already appeared there, but I just could not get it out...Some parts of the wood have different hardness, so it behaves different during sanding... I thought the grainfiller would manage this, but it didn't work out as I wanted...

I have no right place to work, so the whole project I have done mainly on my kitchentable and the coloring in the small cellar, building a kind of paintbox...but it is of course no excuse for the inperfection For what I had in mind for the color of the Explorer was the surface of my Epiphone Les Paul Gothic...well didn't reach it 100%, but it is still a good feeling having done it

After the first coat of black I sanded into the surface with 2500 grain and 4000 grain to get it more smooth...then made another coat of the black...now it is better

Woo BABY! Love that matte black finish!
You have done a really good job painting! That thing is a metal machine! Great looking shredder. Well done.
I look forward to seeing it with all the goodies installed!

Love how this is turning out. Really similar to my EXM project (matte black with actives), but I'll be happy if mine came out half as good as this looks so far.

Nice little spray booth you made there.

Looking good too me. It’s easy to be over-critical of your own work, but I’m sure it will be just fine.

Thank you all for your appreciation!

The inspiration I took from the different diaries on the forum was really helpful to proceed in my work!

Now I am looking to seal the surface with a mat clear varnish...but could be difficult to keep it mat, have to try it out...
