I love it.
That mod would take a little weight out of the guitar i suspect.
Does it feel lighter?
I am wondering hoe i can “add lightless” to mine as the ash body is really heavy.

I've already taken a bit of wood out for the 2 pickup switches.
Ash is quite heavy but I reckon if it was bass wood, it would be too light?

My Ash tele body (TLA-1 - the one in my avatar) was quite heavy even after doing forearm and tummy contours, so I ended up doing a swimming pool route as a way to attain some weight relief.

Shock horror, I know! But other than planing the thickness down to a wafer, it was the only viable alternative.
I only managed to eliminate 400g, but it made a very noticeable difference. All finished it weighs in at 3.8kg, which is pretty average for all my guitars, albeit at the upper end.

Yes and no. I'm sure you know different pieces of the same species of timber can vary in their densities depending on where they are grown. Mineral levels in soil or differences in yearly precipitation can have an effect on an individual tree's density.

I have a Squier Deluxe Strat with a basswood body and it's total weight is 3.6kg. My alder strat (non-kit build) is 3.7kg. Both bodies are equal thickness and dimensionally the same. Same pickups/pots etc. Two different finishes, but I'd say that is reasonably negligible.

Any way you slice it though, 5kg is heavy!

The one thing about a guitar being too light is the introduction of 'neck dive' which I would find more annoying than weight.

Out of curiosity I just weighed my Tele/Strat (hard tail) which is also Ash.. 5kg again, with no reduced cavities.
So this DMS1 must be a particularly dense specimen of Ash.

How are you weighing it? I’ve just bought some cheap digital angling scales for weighing my guitars and that works well. Better than trying to balance it on the bathroom scales, which are probably not that accurate at such a relatively low weight. If that’s all you have, then weighing yourself and then you + guitar and calculating the difference will probably give a more accurate result.

5kg is 11lbs, and my un-weight relieved P90 Les Paul weighs 10lbs.

Yeah I have decent digital bathroom scales, so weigh myself (curse and commit to daily 3k runs) then weigh myself with guitar and subtract the first weight from the second.

I have an el-cheapo luggage scale from the $2 shop.
Probably more than that but not much.
Therefore it's a ballpark figure.

Includes the weight of the guitar strap used to hang it with but of course that would be added when you strap the guitar on.

Mine is nothing fancy either. $10 digital luggage scale from SCA. I have checked it with another scale and absolute known quantities and it was spot on.

I’d weigh it without the strap as that can be very misleading. Or at least give both weights. You could have a thin lightweight nylon webbing strap that may weigh 50g, or a wide, thick, leather strap with solid brass buckles on it that weighs 500g or more in itself!

At least the guitar on its own is a constant that everybody can refer to. Just hang the guitar from a tuner key.
