Thread: Tuning driving me crazy

Hi Andy, after reading the above I suspect you may just need to down tools for a bit and read up on setting intonation. Leave your neck as it is for now. (and order a new nut)
The saddles are the 6 little adjustable metal things that sit on the bridge.
    Basically this:
    1. Tune your string open
    2. Fret the string at the 12th
    3. If sharp (high) then the saddle needs to move towards the back - so tighten the screw
    4. If flat (low) then the saddle needs to move forwards - so loosen the screw
    5. Repeat these steps until your string is in tune both open and at the 12th fret.

Found a video which explains it reasonably well and doesn't waffle on:

I think im getting you now
The slots need to be sanded down further?
I've trashed this one then then.
Will have to wait for the new one

Is the neck sitting right as pictured?
    Thanks again for the help
Oh, no, I was just double checking what you meant. You can take the slot height down in a couple of ways. I have a set of nut files so I usually file the slots themselves, but I think it's quite common to use your method and sand the base of the nut. It just read like you might have sanded the top surface of the nut, which would have explained why you found no difference.

I haven't built that particular kit, but the height of the neck from the body doesn't look all that high to me. Someone who has experience with that kit might have more to say.

Agree that it's worth reading up on intonation before doing any more.
