Thread: AGB-30 Short Scale Bass Build

Finished painting and clear coating last night. Some orange peel but I will sand and buff that out. It's coming along nicely.

I did a little wet sanding to see how much I needed to do. I started with P1200 then went to P2000. Looks like I need to do more still, I just wanted to get a feel for how much was needed. Then I polished an area on the back to see how it would shine up. I tried to get the lighting right for the pic to see the difference. This is the Harbor Freight headlight polish kit pad I used and the Meguire's polish compound I used (Harbor Freight).

That'll look sharp once it's properly levelled.

I find 1200 is too light to start (unless I got really lucky off the gun - still waiting for that to happen ).
600-800 is usually my first grit depending on how heavy the orange peel is.

Did some more wet sanding and polishing. Right up until the velcro backing came off the polishing pad. Another trip to Harbor Freight.

Put the Pitbull decal on the neck today. No matter how much I tried to line it up, it still looks crooked. I think some of that may be the camera in my phone and the angle I took the picture. Getting ready to glue the neck in place once I re-verify alignment.

Installed the tuning pegs in the headstock. Got the neck lines up, glued and clamped. I noticed that they forgot to drill a hole for the 3-way switch, so I will do that after the neck glue is set, 24 hours.

Indeed. Also the output jack hole. This would normally go on the top of the body like on an SG, but you may be able to fit an electrosocket type on the side if you wanted.

Got the neck glued, no problems. I did notice I forgot to paint the ledge under the neck, but no big deal. I also treated the fingerboard with Tung oil. Lined the pickup cavities with the copper foil and installed the pickups. The neck pickup guard needed a notch cut in it so I did that with a bench grinder. I also drilled the missing hole for the 3 way switch. Next I'll be soldering the electronics, which is easy.
