I’ve just received my first kit guitar from Pitbull and have started a “dry” build.
I have the neck in place but have noticed a gap between the pickup cavity and pickup surround.
Any ideas on a fix?
If it's a set neck, like an AG model, and there's no ridge to butt up against the guitar body on the neck, then the neck tenon doesn't sit against the rear of the pickup rout. You would typically position the neck so that the end sits just forward of the neck pickup rout by about 1mm, so that you can position a pickup ring and not see the rout. If it's got the sort of neck join that's got a ridge/cutout and so the neck only fits in one place, then you may need to shorten the end of the neck or do an undercut/notch
in the neck to fit the ring in. Some people have actually cut out a section of pickup ring.
Ahhh I see! So I pull the neck back as you say around 1mm to accommodate the pickup surround. Check my scale length from nut to bridge and maybe use a spare string to check the alignment of the neck?
Yes. You don't want to pull it back too much or you'll run out of saddle adjustment on the bridge. Just enough to get the edge of the pickup ring sat on the front edge of the rout so you don't see a gap.
