Recommendations for stain on a maple flame veneer?

    Hi All,

I am about to commence on an LP with a flame veneer and am looking to only stain to make sure as much of the flame veneer shows through. Based on everyone's advice, there is no need for grain filler on the front, just check for (and remove) and glue spots, perhaps a light sand with 400 and then get to staining.

I was hoping for recommendations/suggestions on the right type and brand of stain - looking at a very light honey/amber finish.

Also applying stain, I've seen a lot of youtube vids use foam brushes. Are the best or do people use a cloth to apply?

    Thanks in advance!

And if there are any other helpful tips they are more than welcome.

    Hi JD

My first build was an LP with quilted veneer. I use ColorTone from StewMac and TruOil. They have nice looking honey/amber.

I am just about to finish my second guitar so I am not as experience as some of the others on here.

All my build details and drama are on my build diaries listed on the of this reply. But its all part of the learning curve. Very rewarding

    Good Luck

    Greg
