    it's been a while...Thinline Strat

With life ,health and stuff it's been a while since I've done a build but... I'm back in the saddle. My original plan for this was to do it solid white along with the Gold Wilkinson trem and staggered tuners I had taken out of another build when I converted it to hardtail. I even asked Adam to switch the neck for a maple board. However...when the kit arrived the top was so nice I think I'm going to have to stain it. I'm thinking burgundy with a thin black burst, with a solid black back and sides black pick guard . I think I might also take the neck with ebony board off my basic black strat and give it the maple one ( ala Gilmours blackie). Thinking Tonerider Surfari pick ups

What about a whitewash style: keeps your original white theme while letting the grain show through. Something like this but less relic.

The scheme you describe sounds quite classy though

That works on an Ash body with well a well-defined grain pattern, but I don't think will work that well on a flat veneer. You could spray a white translucent lacquer over it and still see the pattern, but that normally limits you to using nitro.

Not necessarily. I've been experimenting with tinting clear acrylic lacquer, and it works fine.
I haven't put it on the guitar yet, but all the test pieces came up good. I never thought it wouldn't work, the experimenting was just to understand mixing ratios and number of coats to achieve the desired effect.

I'm using UV resin dyes mixed in with clear lacquer. One of the dyes I have is actually white, but I've been working with blues.
I'm sure you could achieve a translucent white.

After this project, I'm going to try making an amber tinted clear lacquer on a maple neck.
As far as I know, the dyes are just alcohol-based, and seem the same as alcohol-based inks I've used before, but I can't state unequivocally that they're the same thing. Not sure if the pigments are different or what.
