In addition to the above sound advice, I then use some blutak to keep the tuners in the desired location while drilling the pilot holes. This ensures they stay in the exact position I want them to end up in.

Ah, I think we're just taking about the holes for rear-mounted tuners Grover/Klusons etc, The original LP Jr/Special tuners would have been 3-on-a-stick jobs, so the posts would stick straight out from the sides of the headstock with no angling.
The kit holes aren't in a straight line and are slightly too far apart to fit 3-on-a-stick tuners (I did have a look for my GSJ-1), so its really a case of aligning them the best you can, mark the mounting holes and then drilling the holes out. As Bakersdozen said blutack will help keep them in place whilst you mark up.
Thanks for the advice, thought that might be the case. Blutack was a great tip, did it by eye and it looks fine to me
Got it all set up, strung and wired.
Made a bit of a hash of my wiring the first time through so it’s not working quite right.. solder got everywhere. Might have to do it again, but it is making sound. Already sounding great with a bit of dirt, cleans leave a bit yo be desired with this pickup though and that is mostly where I live.
Few kind of rough frets, but a lot of the fretbuzz has died down as it has settled down a bit over the last few days.
So that is phase one of the build done.
Left to do:
Buffing and polishing.
Maybe doing something to the frets?
Rewiring when mick finishes my pickup.
Finihing the tuss rod cover and putting magnets under it.
All in all, pretty happy, pretty smooth process.
Looks fantastic - I really dig that pickguard
